Personal Bias & Confirmation Bias
Personal bias
- The opinions and feelings that individuals carry around with them and which influence the ways in which people interact with the world. Personal bias can undermine decision-making by making a person pre-disposed to feel a certain way about an issue without looking at all of the facts objectively.
Confirmation Bias
- Confirmation bias is broadly defined as “the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, or recall information in a way that confirms one’s preexisting beliefs or hypotheses, while giving disproportionately less consideration to alternative possibilities.” (The Psychology of Judgment and Decision Making, Scott Plouse, p. 233. 1993.
